LOS ANGELES CRITICAL MASS

Ride Ready LA is a project of Los Angeles Critical Mass that provides free safety gear and real‑world street‑skills refreshers to transportation‑dependent cyclists across a truly multigenerational community.

Our monthly rides bring together youth, teens, adults, parents, and a large number of older adults and seniors, all riding side‑by‑side through Los Angeles. This age diversity is central to the program’s impact and reflects the inclusive culture LA Critical Mass has built over two decades.

Most riders already know how to ride; what they often lack are the tools, visibility, and updated safety practices needed to navigate Los Angeles traffic confidently. We plan to start a monthly program in which Ride Ready LA will distribute Safety Kits—LED lights, bells, reflective bands, and multilingual safety cards—and offer Street Skills Micro‑Workshops focused on practical, high‑impact techniques such as visibility, signaling, lane positioning, and navigating unpredictable drivers.

These sessions are designed for riders who already bike daily but benefit from refreshed safety knowledge, community connection, and essential gear they may not be able to afford. Older adults in particular appreciate the added visibility gear and confidence‑building support, while younger riders benefit from intergenerational mentorship and shared experience.

By embedding this support directly into one of the city’s most diverse and accessible community rides, Ride Ready LA strengthens rider confidence, reduces risk, and expands mobility access for thousands of Angelenos who rely on cycling as everyday transportation.
